Why Pearl Earrings are Preferable to Diamond Earrings

by - April 08, 2011

Fashionistas typically favor diamonds over all other gemstones.  This is because of the media and the tendency of prominent figures in that industry to sport such gemstones.  However, there are a large percentage of women who prefer pearls to diamonds.  Here are a few reasons why pearl earrings are often more in demand that diamonds.
Pearls are far more affordable in comparison to diamonds.  Whereas a single diamond can cost thousands of dollars, it is possible to purchase a set of authentic pearl stud earrings for a few hundred dollars.  This is mainly because of the Japanese advances made to the industry during the early 1900s.  In addition, authentic pearls come in a wide range of colors roughly matching that of diamond and often going beyond that scope.
Pearls are the traditional gemstone worn at weddings.  This means that they are fairly simple to match with even the most diamond studded wedding rings so long as the bride is also wearing another piece of pearl jewelry or if those earrings also have diamonds surrounding the pearl as accent pieces.
Pearls are not associated with the human rights issues that diamonds are often associated with, which means they are a conscience-free purchase.
According to many jewelers and fashionistas, pearls are one of those gems which give the wearer and understated elegance.  This means that women who would like to look regal and nearly aristocratic in imitation of 18th and 19th century women from the British aristocracy will look even more so in a set of pearl earrings.
